Add or Rename Users in Google Workspace
Managing user accounts in Google Workspace is essential for effective identity, access, and email management. You can easily add new users or rename existing accounts directly from the Admin Console.
👤 How to Add a New User
- Go to admin.google.com and sign in with your admin credentials.
- From the left sidebar, click Directory → Users.
- Click the “Add New User” button (➕).
- Fill in the user details: First Name, Last Name, Email Address, and optional info.
- Set a password or use the auto-generated one.
- Click Add New User to finish.
✏️ How to Rename an Existing User
- Sign in to admin.google.com.
- Go to Directory → Users.
- Click the user you want to rename.
- Click the Edit (✏️) icon next to their name or email.
- Update the name or primary email address.
- Click Update User to save changes.
Note: When renaming a user, their old email address becomes an alias so they don't lose any mail or access.
✅ Best Practices
- Always inform the user before renaming their email to avoid confusion.
- Use Organizational Units (OUs) to manage user groups and policies.
- Assign roles carefully and enable 2-Step Verification for security.
- Use bulk CSV upload for creating or modifying multiple users at once.
