Create Organizational Units (OUs) in Google Workspace

Google Workspace OU Management

Organizational Units (OUs) help you group users by department, role, or function to apply specific policies. For example, you can apply stricter security settings to your finance team or restrict app access for interns.

🏢 How to Create an Organizational Unit

  1. Log in to admin.google.com with a Super Admin account.
  2. In the left-hand menu, go to DirectoryOrganizational Units.
  3. Click the “+” (plus) icon next to your domain name.
  4. Enter a Name for the new OU (e.g., “Sales”, “Support”, “HR”).
  5. Optionally, enter a Description and select a parent OU if this should be nested.
  6. Click Create.

👥 Move Users to an OU

  1. Go to DirectoryUsers.
  2. Select the checkbox next to the user(s) you want to move.
  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) → Change organizational unit.
  4. Select the destination OU and click Continue.
