🛠️ Microsoft 365 Basic Admin Setup Guide
This guide helps new Microsoft 365 administrators with the essential setup and configuration tasks to get started with managing your organization’s users, apps, and data securely.
✅ 1. Sign in to Admin Center
Visit admin.microsoft.com and log in with your Global Admin account.
✅ 2. Add Your Domain
- Go to Setup > Domains
- Click “Add domain” and follow the steps
- Verify ownership via TXT record in your DNS panel
- Update MX, SPF, and other DNS records as suggested
✅ 3. Add Users
- Navigate to Users > Active Users
- Click Add a user
- Assign license (e.g. Business Standard)
- Set user role and password
✅ 4. Assign Roles
Use role-based access control for secure delegation:
- Global Admin (Full access)
- User Management Admin
- Billing Admin
- Helpdesk Admin
✅ 5. Enable MFA (Security Defaults)
Go to Azure Active Directory > Properties > Security Defaults and enable MFA for all users to secure sign-in.
✅ 6. Configure Exchange Mail
- Visit Exchange Admin Center
- Create shared mailboxes, distribution lists
- Set up mail flow rules
✅ 7. Setup Teams & Collaboration
Configure meeting policies, guest access, and app permissions via the Teams Admin Center.
✅ 8. OneDrive & SharePoint Settings
- Enable storage and sharing controls
- Allow external sharing if required
- Configure site collections and access permissions
✅ 9. Enable Device Management (Optional)
Use Microsoft Intune to enforce mobile security, remote wipe, and device encryption policies.
✅ 10. Monitor Billing & Licenses
- Check billing in Billing > Your Products
- Track license usage and renewals
