Reset Password & Enforce Strong Passwords in Google Workspace

Google Workspace Password Reset

As a Google Workspace admin, you can reset a user's password and set policies to enforce strong passwords for better security. Here's how to do both.

🔐 How to Reset a User's Password

  1. Go to admin.google.com and sign in with your admin credentials.
  2. Click DirectoryUsers.
  3. Search and select the user whose password you want to reset.
  4. Click on the user's profile, then click Reset Password.
  5. Enter a new password or let Google auto-generate a strong password.
  6. Check Ask user to change password on next sign-in (recommended).
  7. Click Reset.

🔒 Enforce Strong Password Requirements

  1. In the Admin Console, go to SecurityPassword management.
  2. Select the desired organizational unit (OU).
  3. Enable the following options as needed:
    • Enforce strong password: Requires passwords to be at least 8 characters, include letters and numbers.
    • Prevent reusing old passwords: You can set how many previous passwords can't be reused.
    • Set password expiration (optional): Force users to update passwords every X days.
  4. Click Save.

✅ Tips for Better Security

Password policy changes apply only to users in the selected OU and may take a few minutes to propagate.
