๐ Set Up Domain in Microsoft 365
To use Microsoft 365 with your own domain (like @yourcompany.com), you must verify ownership and configure DNS settings. This ensures your users can send and receive email through Microsoft Exchange and use all Microsoft services under your branded domain.
๐ Step-by-Step Setup Guide
- Go to admin.microsoft.com and log in as a Global Admin.
- In the left panel, click Settings โ Domains.
- Click โAdd Domainโ and enter your domain (e.g.,
shivcloud.in). - Microsoft will show a TXT record to verify ownership. Copy it.
- Login to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, BigRock, Cloudflare).
- Add the provided TXT record to your DNS settings.
- Wait a few minutes, then click โVerifyโ in Microsoft 365.
- After verification, Microsoft will guide you to update MX, CNAME, and SPF records.
๐ Required DNS Records
| Type | Host/Name | Value/Data | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| TXT | @ | MS=msXXXXXXXX | 3600 |
| MX | @ | domain-com.mail.protection.outlook.com | 3600 |
| CNAME | autodiscover | autodiscover.outlook.com | 3600 |
| TXT | @ | v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all | 3600 |
โ Common Issues & Fixes
- Verification fails? Wait 15โ30 minutes and ensure no typos in the TXT record.
- Email not working? Check if MX records are correct and no other conflicting MX records exist.
- SPF fail? Ensure you only have one SPF TXT record.
